MEUSE VALLEY
The Meuse valley stretches from the south-east to the north-west of the département, forming a great diagonal of greenery where flora and fauna create exceptional biodiversity.
From the river and its oxbows to the vast hay meadows, from wet forests to gravel banks, numerous species such as the curlew, corncrake, red kite, European beaver, swallows, bats and dragonflies find their haven here.
Nature, in balance with the human activity that reigns on this natural site, as evidenced by the agriculture, offers local residents and walkers an enchanting setting in which to discover biodiversity.
134 bird species have been recorded on the site, including 30 species listed under the Birds Directive (a bird protection tool), such as the Bank Swallow, the Whimbrel, the European Bee-eater and the Red-backed Shrike.
